Story 1 – Iron Man – today’s comic animation hero

Maya tried to walk Tony into trap in order to gain his support for Killian and her invention Extremis. Killian and his men are successful in destroying suits and seeming everything at Tony’s house. However they are not able to capture or kill Tony. Tony manages to live with his experimental suit and escapes to a remote location in Tennessee. Here Tony has to seek help from a boy in order to charge, repair his suit, which is taking unusually long. In mean while Tony is attacked by Killian men, few other things happen and Tony is captured by Killian.

Highlight scene

In captivity, Tony is wired to metal frame of bed and guarded by armed men. Suddenly Tony asks the guards “You better flee in 10 seconds” Guards find his argument way too weak as they are armed with guns, Tony is unarmed, injured and wired to metal frame. Tony insists they should run as any moment something is going to happen that’s going to change the situation. Tony repeats argument by doing count down 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… “Puff” nothing happens. Guards are almost into laughter. Tony with seemingly confident manner repeats the argument asking them to flee in next 5 4 3 2 1 seconds… “Bang” the windows break due impact of external object and a piece of Iron man suit flies in and gets armed on Tony’s hand. In few more seconds other pieces of his suit fly to him and arm Tony to fight those armed men and break free from captivity.

Story 2 Ram – age old epic hero from

Ramayana

Shurpanakha complained about Ram and Laxman who have come to live in Dandakaranya with Ram’s beautiful wife Seeta, to her brothers, rakshas king, Khar and Dushan, who became angry on the insult of their sister by the two human brothers. Rakshas king Khar and Dushan bring down a selected pack of soldiers upon Ram and Laxman. Ram decides to handle them alone asking Laxman to protect Seeta. Ram sees Khar and Dushan marching forward with their soldiers.

Ram, alone in middle of jungle, has to face these armed soldiers and the two powerful worriers known to be skilled in mayavi vidya (sorcery) prepares his bow and arrow. Ram without any hesitation advises Khar and Dushan to flee the area and he will not harm them in other words “मै तुम्हे भागने का एक मौका देता हुं“. But they have decided to fight without knowing whats in front of them. Suddenly rishi Agastya comes to advise Ram and suggests to use magic weapon taught to him by rishi Vishwamitra called Sam-mohini astra. Ram with respect accepts the advise and chants mantra to prepare Sam-mohini astra. At once his arrow is armed with Sam-mohini astra. Ram releases arrow armed with Sam-mohini astra upon the soldiers brought in by Khar and Dushan. Sam-mohini astra does what it is armed for and the soldiers under effect of Sam-mohini astra kill each other mistakenly, thinking asif they are fighting with Ram. Now Ram prepares to fight one to one, with Khar and Dushan who are also skilled to use  mayavi astra vidya. Dushan chants mantra to call his astra and releases them upon Ram. Likewise Khar also chants mantra and attacks Ram with his astra. However astra arranged by Ram are more powerful than both of them who finally killed in battled by Ram.

My view about these stories

Before you enjoy glimpse of the two stories mentioned above in videos below, I want to add something to this.

These epic stories of Ramayan, Mahabharat has been told since ages and have time and again mentioned brave worriers and weapons they used. We have enjoyed these stories but there is an element of myth inside that, or there is question always how that is possible and results into denial of practical possibilities of these.

Now look at the Sci-Fi or comic heros of, framed in stories of not so distant future where one can call his weapon from no-where and get it armed to attack enemy. What makes this (some-what) believable(?) may be the visualization of the videos, special effects or the links technology available as of today and possibilities of inventions in near future.

Most important difference is in eyes, and the minds behind those eyes, who are looking at these videos. One who look at Ramayana with dis-belief and one who look at Iron man with more than amusement value… may be higher degree of belief?

Yes, I think it all starts with belief with which the mind look at possibilities told in these stories, and challenges technology of present day to do more… Really there are vast possibilities to explore and re-invent if it is based on one simple thought or belief that it is possible!

Fastest Browser – The Ant Test!

This is first of its kind test that I have done. I used a Windows 7 Machine with 2GB RAM and 2.1 GHz Processor.Versions of the Browsers I used are up-to-date.

Firefox 4.0b | Chrome 7 | Opera 10.63 | Safari 5.0.2| SeaMonkey 2.0.10 | Internet Explorer 8

One of my friend today updated his status on Facebook to say that he is thrilled with FF 4 beta. I am keen follower of browsers and updates. Firefox is one of the most appealing browser to me and hence I started my test with Firefox 4.0b7. They have a very good page created for their new updates to show “Whats New”. Its called an Ant Test!  What the test page does is it loads a Page that does stressful tasks for the browse. And thus while the browser is busy showing test page it shows up statistics of how is browser doing in terms of javascript (JS Speed) execution and frame refresh (fps)

I had no previous version of Firefox to compare hence, loaded Opera 10.63 (my favorite browser). And to my surprise Firefox 4.0b7 was not able to meet the performance that Opera 10.63 had shown within first few seconds of “Start” of the test. So I “Added Food” and then brought on the “Spider” in all these conditions Opera was significantly faster both in “JS Speed” and “fps”

So I thought of putting all my browsers to test…. I loaded Chorme, SeaMonkey, Safari and of course Firefox and Opera were on.

It was soon clear thatSeaMonkey 2.0.5 was pathetically SLOW and could not even coup with the JS Speed of double digits and fps of even 5-7. So I dropped SeaMonkey out of the test. (….DNF!)

As expected Internet Explorer 8 could not even load the page for the Ant test… I do not know why everything is appears broken in IE now a days… 😦 (… yet another DNF!)

When I started recording some trends, I realized that Chrome as built in Task Manager that shows how other browsers loaded are performance on Memory front. I kicked it ON.

Thus in a short while I noticed Safari 5.0.2 (No 2) to be a clear Champion in frame refresh but little slow on JS speed, where Opera 10.63 (No 1) stood a clear Winner in JS Speed and lowest memory footprint, followed by close race of Firefox 4.0b7 (No 3) and Chrome 7 (No 4) where Chrome finished last.

Parameters evaluated during the Ant test are
JS Speed: Javascript Engine Speed – How fast the browser is capable of executing the javascript
fps: frames per second – How efficient is the browser in refreshing the content of the web page
Memory: How much space in RAM does the browser occupy while you are surfing

Another Milestone Conquerred by ISRO: Indigenous Cryogenic Engine

ISRO to launch satellites by its own indigenous cryogenic engine

New Delhi, Feb 18, 2009: India’s ISRO is all set to launch satellites by its own indigenous cryogenic engine. Late last year India had completed final testing of its indigenously developed Cryogenic engine, giving a big boost to its space aspirations. It was the second biggest success for ISRO after Chandrayaan-1 launch.

ISRO crossed yet another major milestone in December last year by successfully conducting the Flight Acceptance Hot Test of Indigenous Cryogenic Engine at Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre’s (LPSC) Mahendragiri facilities on December 18, 2008. This Cryogenic Engine is identified for the first indigenously developed Cryogenic Stage to be used in the next Geosynchronous Launch Vehicle mission (GSLV -D3).

The indigenous cryogenic engine develops a thrust of 73 kilo Newtons (kN) in vacuum with a specific impulse of 454 seconds and provides a payload capability of 2200 Kg to Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) for GSLV. The Engine works on ‘Staged Combustion Cycle’ with an integrated turbopump running at around 42,000 rotations per minute (rpm). It is also equipped with two steering engines developing a thrust of 2 kN each to enable three-axis control of the launch vehicle during the mission. Another unique feature of this engine is the closed loop control of both thrust and mixture ratio, which ensures optimum propellant utilisation for the mission.

The hot test was carried out for a planned duration of 200 seconds during which the engine was operated in the nominal and 13% uprated thrust regimes. All the propulsion parameters during the test were found satisfactory and closely matched with predictions.

Freedom of Expression or Just a Trade Off…

On 05-Feb-09, one of top commented article in Times of India made me think what is this article about and I turned away from that page. But then I on second thought I decide to leave N+1 comment on that article. I believe the comment will never be published as there is praise for Police and dispraise for Media. Non-the-less I thought to publish it here as my thought for today….

Below is the article followed by my thoughts….

Man assaults jeans-clad wife for dressing up like men

SIRSA: In a brazen act of violence, reminiscient of the Shri Ram Sene goons in Mangalore, a man kicked and stamped his wife because she was dressed “as a man”

Adding insult to injury, the police promptly dispatched the battered woman, who suffered the ignominy in full public glare, to her in-laws house, terming it as a “family matter”. No case was filed.

The shameful episode was played out in the Dabwali market on Monday when a 23-year-old jean-clad girl accompanied her parents on a shopping expedition. “She was accosted by her livid husband and beaten for ‘bringing a bad name to the family”.

He kept screaming at her “Is this the way women from respectable families dress?” a shopkeeper, who witnessnessed the incident and helped rescue the girl, said. A PCR van which reached the spot, took the couple to the police station, he added.

“We summoned the boy’s father and his relatives from nearby Bading Khera village and let them take the couple home on an assurance that there would be no more beatings. Besides, it is a family dispute and can be resolved by counselling the husband-wife duo who are graduates,” Joginder Singh, SHO, city police station at Dabwali, told TOI.

However, the incident has sparked off a raging debate. Shreya, student of advertising, management and public relations department of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, claimed, “Dress has nothing to do with family repute or disrepute. Even boys wear earrings and keep flowing hair.”

Striking a more strident note, Jagmati Sangwan, state president of All India Democratic Women’s Association, said, “The police ought to have booked the husband for assault and under the Domestic Violence Act.”

My View:
I assume that both Man and Woman in this case hold the same definition of Respect and Society.

Man seems to be believing in a society where women are looked upon as Respectable Icon of a Family and is expected to carry the Iconic Emblem by her Appearance, Behavior and Character all together.
Woman seems to be believing in a society where Appearance may not be the Top significant criteria for displaying Respect.

There is a disconnect in expectations of the two. Hence is the social display of disgusting rage.
Very simplified way of looking at the gist of the news. But is that all? It reflects many more things not just the dilemma of the two individuals involved for right of freedom to express vs the display respectfulness.

(1) Clashes between Individuals with different mindsets is always a right thing to happen. The manner in which it is displayed depends on the local culture of the society. Now this is very very local and may change if you move out of a residential area of circle with a radius 5 KM. In Metros one may file for Divorce and decide to stay away. In same Metro one may decide to Kill Other Person or Hit and Kick. It all depends of how the individuals sees it right from his social upbringing and surroundings. At this time we have to accept that Bharat is such a country where Diversity is the foundation and cannot be eliminated make what one individual or a complete Official System May Try and Do. Same Rule cannot be applied to each and every case.

(2) Notice the reaction of Police. They have classified it as family and not reported any case. This is very very practical and simple reaction to all that I am trying to explain in the point 1 above. The underlying reason for Police to take this action could be anything but the result is the same. The clashes between two individuals especially a couple married to each other is strictly a family affair.

(3) Now why is Media bringing this up to the national level. There is Debate Value in the subject that can possibly enrage individuals and that way creating more news. Is that kind of news good for health of society? Does media officials thing of value that the news is going to bring to society before publishing it?

(4) Media should visit schools, public / private sports complexes, cultural foundation programs and keep publishing their results of GOOD work done by our people and publish it. What is result? There may not be direct “more news” value into it. But for sure it will inspire more and more individuals to think of exploring his or her “constructive aspirations” as opposed to the “rage” in earlier scenario where there is “more news value”. Aspiration to do something like a winning sports person did or a vocalist did will certainly earn more Medal to aspirant Bharat than enraged Bharat.

My Suggestion
I am suggesting Media to run a Good-New-Section (GNS) for each city and give that GNS section higher publicity. By doing that media would have created social value and it the value will be much much more than the news value that is targeted by publishing such low-social-value but high-news-value news.
